Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Ca. 100 AD An amuletic plaque comprising of a rectangular sheet-gold plaque bearing a repoussé menorah, pierced in each corner for attachment. The menorah has been a symbol of Judaism since ancient times and is described in the Bible as the seven-lamp (six branches) ancient Hebrew lamp stand, made of pure gold. It was used in the portable sanctuary, which was set up by Moses in the wilderness, and later in the Temple of Jerusalem. The item has undergone X-ray fluorescence analysis to confirm the metallurgical content suggesting its ancient origin and lack of modern trace elements. Size: L:33mm / W:16mm; 1.4g Provenance: Property of a London Gentleman; formerly in a private UK collection formed in the 1990s.
