mark of Hessenberg & Co., Frankfurt am Main, together with Halbmond und Reichstrone (crescent and crown) and 800 indicating 800/1000 standard silver, each dish of circular form, 8.5cm diameter and numbered 4253, with sunken well containing a clear glass dish with star cut base, each butter knife of 'Rattail' type pattern, verso signed, all presented in a dark blue gilt tooled fitted case with cream satin interior. 20.5ozt weighable silverHessenberg & Co were a Frankfurt based jewellers who became well known due to the great demand for luxury goods in the 19th century. In 1867 its owners Hessenberg & Wiersing were appointed court jewellers to the Queen of Württemberg, the Duke of Baden and the Duke of Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach. They opened a second shop in Bad Homburg in 1890, but due to the economic depression and two World Wars their silver production decreased dramatically, and they ceased production in the late 1950s
