probable mark of Anne Craig & John Neville, London 1744, plain, tapering sides engraved with the arms of DAVIES impaling ALO AP RHIWALLON, part marked piano hinged, stepped and domed cover topped with an urn shaped finial, capped brown handle 22cm high, 19.6oztProvenance: Wood Hall, Hilgay, NorfolkThe armorial appears to commemorate the marriage of an unidentified second son of the Davies family of North Wales and the northern and central Welsh marches and his wife, an unidentified daughter of another Welsh family who, from the evidence of her paternal arms, claimed descent from Alo ap Rhiwallon, of Trefnant, Denbighshire. An extensive search of printed pedigrees of the Davies family has not yet found a credible marriage at present, and therefore the full identity of the parties that are represented by these marital arms is not known.
