|老坑大西洞石材，带有黄皮，石色青灰泛紫，可见蕉白、金线等石品。砚池处饰云纹，砚面平整光润。配漆木砚匣，盒面上镶嵌明代镂空云龙纹玉板。|大西洞在老坑内，老坑“内分四洞，曰大西洞，曰小西洞，曰正洞，曰东洞”，而“三洞之石惟西洞为佳，而大西洞尤佳。西洞三层质细腻而温软，色融合而光润，蕉白、青花、冰纹、鱼脑，无美不备。惟水线交错，且质嫩多惊纹，求数寸完璧不易得”。
