18kt Gold George Perkins Merrill Swiss Hunter-case Watch, late 19th century, unmarked roman numeral enameled dial with sunk seconds, blued Breguet-style hands, stem-wind, pin-set movement with wolf's tooth winding, and split bimetallic balance, interior case engraved with the following family provenance: "Isaac James 1897/E.E. James 1899-1913/G.P. Merrill 1914-1929/D.M. Gulick 1929/K.G. Fricker," with a copy of the Smithsonian Scientific Series Volume 3/Minerals from Earth and Sky, five postcards referencing mineral specimens, and an unidentified specimen from Mr. Merrill's collection, dia. 48 mm, 91g.Provenance: Family descent. George Merrill was a geologist and head curator for the Department of Geology at the National Museum (National Museum of Natural History) from 1917-1929.
