仿古玉石器最早出现于宋代，伴随着金石学的兴起而成为一种时尚，此后历代延绵不绝。此件作品以商周青铜壶为本化裁而来，敞口扁身，两侧置双系耳，颈、附部均以宽大的兽面纹为饰，纹饰塑造极为精细，古朴庄重而富于神秘气息，其间衬以富于时代特征的变形蕉叶纹。
此扁壶不仅在玉材的质地上加以模仿，更将三代制器的唯美、温雅的气质表现的淋漓尽致。故将此壶置于案头，宛若天成，实用欣赏之余，亦可陶冶性情，有点睛之妙，殊为难得。
