Pair of candlesticks, probably Baroque c. 1731, silver, matching stepped foot with chiselled vine work and applied oval medallions with antique portraits, faceted chiselled baluster stem with stepped spout and eaves bowl, h. 20 cm. 733g, master's mark SC in a transverse rectangle and a spray mark Augsburg 1731-1733, this mark is attributed by Seling to master Joh. S. Christeiner (Mstr. c. 1800), but this attribution does not match the time of the spray mark of 1731-33, possibly it is the master's mark of 1731-33. It may be the master's mark of Samuel Gessler, maker c. 1692, + 1731 - i.e. the candlesticks would have been made in the year of his death, cf. Seling, 2650 and Suppl. III, 312 as well as 1863 (Gessler).
