GOLDSCHMIDT A SUPERB GUYUE XUAN 'THREE FRIENDS OF WINTER' CYLINDRICAL GLASS VESSEL1770-1800, unmarked but probably Imperial The finely enameled semi-opaque white glass body superbly painted in a continuous scene in the Guyuexuan style with 'The Three Friends of Winter', pine bamboo and prunus, each rising from a finely detailed pierced blue rockwork outcrop, with the bark of the pine and prunus trunks and branches delicately picked out, the branches of each fanning out around the body to perfectly epass the vessel with adequate breathing space filled by the white glass ground, a meticulously painted classic 'thunder-pattern', leiwen band in iron-red and yellow enamel encircles the rim, all supported on a short cylindrical foot ring. 4 1/4in (11cm) high 1770-1800年 或為古月軒御製 料胎琺瑯彩歲寒三友圖直筒瓶 Provenance: Sotheby's, Hong Kong, 28 November 1978, lot 421 Sotheby's,Hong Kong, 17 May 1989, lot 462 J. The Changchun Yuan was intended as a retirement home for the Qianlong emperor; construction was begun in 1751 but notpleted until 1767. The studio was apparently obliterated in or after 1810.
