FROM A MARYLAND PRIVATE COLLECTION A FAMILLE-ROSE ' BAJIXIANG ' PORCELAIN BOWLJiaqing mark and of the period Enamelled around the exterior with thebination of four pairs of the ' Bajixiang ' (Eight Auspicious Emblems)prising a ribboned blue and white vase with a lotus spray, two tied canopies, a conch shell and a wheel, and twin fish with an endless knot, all within a band of key pattern below the rim, another of ruyi head-shaped clouds and a third of yellow-ground dot pattern encircling the foot. Except for the red pigments, the other colors are all embossed in relief. A line drawing of this design is illustrated by Geng Baochang in Ming Qing ciqi jianding: Qing dao bufen , Beijing, 1987, pp. 163, fig. 213. pare, for example, a Tongzhi-marked bowl of the same design illustrated in the catalogue of the exhibition organized by the University of Hong Kong, Imperial Porcelain of Late Qing , Hong Kong, 1983, no. 97. A pair of Jiaqing-marked bajixiang bowls was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, May 27th, 2014, lot 3469 and an example with a Qianlong seal mark was sold at Sotheby's, Hong Kong, The Goldschmidt Collection of Qing Imperial Porcelain, 13 November 1990, lot 48.
