There are approximately sixty extant works by him of which three-quarters are dated. Despite the influence of Zhou Leyuan and Ma Shaoxuan, Chen retained his own style and is renowned for the filling in of endless detail in hispositions. The 'eagle and bear' is a classic subject for Chen, while the red-crested crane with outstretched wings is lessmon.
