Despite his brief pursuit of an official career which ended abruptly when he was perceived to have offended the emperor in his writing, Meng Haoran mainly lived and wrote about the area in which he was born and raised, in what is now Hubei province. Meng appears as a subject often on snuff bottles as a symbol of hope. He is usually apanied by his attendant who carries a prunus branch being the first flower to blossom as winter ends and spring approaches with longer, warmer days.
