Clock; Empire style, first third of 1810. Gilt bronze. It is in running condition. The pendulum is missing. Measurements: 42,5 x 14 x 14 cm. Table clock made of gilded bronze in the shape of a classical vessel. The amphora-shaped clock stands on a square base that rests on four round, chamfered legs. The base is decorated in relief with the image of a framed cupid flanked by two broad palmettes. From the base, the foot of the cup, with vegetal decoration, leads to the body, which contains the white dial with Roman numerals in black. The body is more decorative, as the main sphere is flanked by two figures dressed in the classical manner, one of whom can be identified as Selene, as her head is adorned with a ribbon with the waning moon. The handles of the large goblet are attached to the sides of the body and end in the goblet with a design of the face of an owl, a symbol that could represent Athena. As for the neck below the lip of the mouth, its cylindrical composition has a frieze-like design composed of a number of small motifs. Clocks of this type were very common in the First Empire and, because they were inspired by them, in the Second French Empire. In both cases, the influence of classical decorative elements is clear, both in the reliefs and in the human figures on the pedestals, which are always straight-lined.
