A large Williamite armorial goblet c.1740, the generous round funnel bowl engraved with the arms of King William III of England, the reverse with an eight-pointed star, raised on a plain stem above a domed foot, 25.5cm. William III (William II in Scotland) was also widely known as William of Orange. He participated in several wars against the Catholic Louis XIV in France and was seen by many Protestants as a champion of their faith.
