Penny Farthing bicycle, a rare and fully rideable Penny-Farthing (ordinary bicycle), circa 1880s, restored in the late 1960s and museum displayed in the early 1970s. The front wheel measures approx 58" in diameter and the rear wheel approx 20" in diameter, both wheels with v-section rims. The height from the ground to the handle bars is approx 64", the overall length of the bicycle is 73" long; twist grip handlebars 28" wide to tighten the wire cable operating the brake on the rear wheel; coil springs integral to the saddle, sprung blade mount; the Penny Farthing is finished in black enamel with red coach lining and decals, fitted trouser guard and frock coat guard to front forks, candle-powered headlamp to front and one headstock. Wonderful piece of social history.
