Ca. 2000 BCA round-bottomed pottery vessel of a bulbous body, with a broad sloped shoulder tapering to flared circular rim. The entire surface is covered with a beige slip, with a brown-painted decoration around the shoulder consisting of abstract motifs. Tepe Giyan is an archaeological site in the highlands of the central Z?gros Mountains in Hamadan Province, Iran. The hill lies within the village of Giyan about 10 km southeast of Nehawand. The hill is 350 m long in diameter and 19m high. The first excavations of Tepe Giyan occurred in 1931-1932 sponsored by Musees Nationaux and the Ecole du Louvre under the directorship of George Contenau and Roman Ghirshman. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements.
