Kashan, Ca. 1100-1200 ADA rectangular-shaped pottery tile with ochre ground decorated with a central motif of pale blue mihrab - the niche in a mosque indicating the direction of Mecca which worshipers should face when praying and navy glazed calligraphy all in relief. This tile, which would have originally been one of a series of tiles running along the wall of a building, is a testament to the technical skills of Seljuk craftsmen.
