A Qajar lacquer mirror case signed Muhammad Baqir Persia, dated AH 1239/ AD 1823-4A Qajar lacquer mirror case signed Muhammad Baqir Persia, dated AH 1239/ AD 1823-4of rectangular form with lifting cover, decorated in polychrome and gilt with a bird perching amidst a floral spray with butterfly to the cover and the reverse, the cover with signature, bordered by foliate interlace, the interior of the cover with a nobleman being entertained by a maiden and her attendants on a palace terrace 23.5 x 15.5 cm. Inscriptions: raqam-e kamtarin muhammad baqer 1239(?), 'The work of the smallest (servant of God), Muhammad Baqir 1239 (?) (1823-4)'There was an enamel worker active during the reigns of Fath 'Ali Shah and Muhammad Shah, called Muhammad Baqir. He was particularly skilful in depicting flowers, birds and portraits in both Persian and European styles, as well as scientific drawings.
