Marcel Breuer B32 Cesca Dining Chairs for Gavina. Italy. 1960. Pair of dining chairs in chromed tubes, lacquered wood and wickerwork. This is a reissue of the model created in 1928 by Marcel Breuer (Pécs, Hungary, 1902 - New York, 1981) Both chairs still have their original label. As we can read on the Italiandesignclub.com website: "Cesca chairs were initially designed in 1928 by the French-Hungarian architect Marcel Breuer and were named after his daughter Francesca. Gavina was the official Italian manufacturer of Marcel Breuer’s furniture; in 1968, the company was bought by Knoll International, which took over the official license. Marcel Breuer, architect and furniture designer, broadened the sculptural vocabulary that he had developed in the carpentry workshop at Bauhaus into a unique style of architecture that made him one of the most important architects of the 20th century. These dining chairs in the Bauhaus style are now icons of 20th century furniture design.” 78,5 x 45,5 x 49 cm.
