Very rare Imari XXXL plate, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912), 2nd half of the 19th century, unique, huge porcelain plate with polychrome overglaze and underglaze painting as well as enamel and gold colours, the rim decorated with magnificent alternating flower heads, in the centre a mighty panorama spreads out in the style of Chinese landscape painting (sansuiga), as it was also cultivated in Meiji period Japan as bunjinga: Scholars sit in pavilions in contemplation of the landscape, a gentleman strides with his servant along the arched bridge, drastically moving ocean waves brush against the towering mountain massifs marked by strong dragon veins(longmai), which reach organically moving into the distance behind golden clouds, partially retouched(presumably during the production process), reverse with cobalt blue ornaments, H 12cm, D 78cm
