A pair of Chinese sang-de-boeuf vases and covers, 19th century, each of tapering form, applied with a glaze of rich oxblood-red colour thinning to white at the rim, painted in gilt with flowers and birds in shaped panels against a diapered ground, the domed cover similarly decorated, 31.5cm high (4) Provenance: From the Collection of Alfred Augustus Field (1898-1977), who worked in Calcutta as a pharmacist from around 1920 until the early 1950s. During his time in India, his love of ceramics developed and he started collecting various pieces that interested him.
