UNKNOWN ARTIST A large Chinese wallpaper panel Ink and colour on paper, mounted on a stretcher and framed Qing Dynasty, 18th / 19th Century. Formed from two rectangular panels, painted with an elderly woman chaperoning three playful children as a group of three ladies stands by a rocky outcrop, all looking over at two fish mounted as procession lanterns, presumably from a passing parade just out of view, the scene dotted with rock formations, tufts of grass and gnarled pine trees Unsigned 111.5cm high x 125cm wide 清十八/十九世紀 人物故事圖牆紙 Note: During the late 17th and 18th centuries, Chinese export paintings decorated the walls of the Palladian mansions found all over England. Wallpaper panels would adorn the walls of rooms built for hosting and entertaining, with some painted panels reaching over three metres high.
