John White Abbott, British 1763-1851- Rustic family in a woodland clearing; pen and grey and black ink and grey wash on paper, dated 'March 26' (lower right), 17.5 x 18 cm., (unframed). Provenance: with Abbott and Holder, London (from part of a larger group acquired from the descendants of the artist).; with Harry Moore-Gwyn Fine Art, London.; Private Collection, UK. Note: As well as a painter, Abbott practiced as a surgeon and apothecary. This charming scene, in typical monochrome, evokes a sense of familial warmth and is typical of Abbott’s pen and ink drawings.
