A Russian icon of St Sophia, the Wisdom of the Word of God, late 19th century, with St Sophia seated on a magnificent throne with outstretched wings, flanked by the Mother of God and St John the Baptist, above the circular glory an image of the blessing Christ, on the upper part of the composition are angles and an altar on a dark blue ground with gilt stars, with an Guardian angel and St Anna on the borders, wood panel with parcel gilt decoration, missing sponki, 35.7cm x 32.1cm Provenance:Christie’s South Kensington 9 December 1992, lot 212, bearing label to reverse.
