Upon completion it was installed inside the Golden Temple in Amritsar on 1st September 1604. The text consists of 1,430 pages and 5,894 shabads or compositions, poetically rendered and set to ancient north Indian music. It contains the teachings of the six Sikh Gurus, who were the main contributors, the Muslim Sufi saint, Sheikh Farid and fourteen Hindu Bhakti movement saints, including Namdev, Kabir and Ramananda.
