A RUSSET-PAINTED CIZHOU BOWLJin/Yuan dynasty With rounded sides and gently interned rim, the interior freely painted in russet brown with three floral designs over a white slip, all under a translucent glaze, the center of the bowl pared clean of glaze a circular ring for stacking in the kiln, the exterior brushed with white slip around the rim and covered with translucent glaze, the lower part of the bowl and foot unglazed and neatly pared, showing buff stoneware body. 7 5/8in (19.7cm) diam; 3in (7.8cm) high 金/元 磁州褐彩碗 Overall the rustic, folky quality is consistent with Cizhou ware of this period. An excellent study piece to enjoy.
