Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279)Stoneware with a transparent blue-tinged glazeOf conical shape, moulded to the interior with two phoenix in flight amongst flowers, below a band of keyfretRim left unglazedJingdezheng kilns注意: Provenance:Inportant private collectionSotheby’s, London, 2015The decoration of this beautiful ‘Qingbai’ bowl from the Jingdezheng kilns is clearly influenced by ‘Ding’ pieces with molded decoration produced in Hebei province during the 12th century. ‘Ding’ bowls with similar shape and decoration can be found at the National Palace Museum in Taipei and published in: “Decorated Porcelain of Dingzhou. White Ding wares from the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei 2014”, pp. 183, 184-185. At page 244 of the same catalogue, in a section titled “Ding porcelains and their influence”, there is a conical bowl in all very similar to the one we are presenting, produced in Jingdezheng kilns under influence of ‘Ding’ kilns, between the 12th and 14th centuries.
