Christian Dior Haute Couture Jacket and Skirt with Toile, Spring/Summer 2007In a collection inspired by Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton`s affair with the teenage Madame Butterfly, the runway presentation for Spring 2007 resulted in New Look interpretations of Japanese dress, and culminated in Galliano himself attired as a swashbuckling naval officer. A collection as complicated and venerated as Puccini`s opera itself, Galliano achieved heights in his construction and technique through architectural folds nodding to origami. Described by Sarah Mower as a `return to form,` Galliano `Dior-ified kimonos, obis, and geisha makeup,` lifting the collection to an `extraordinary place of brilliance.`  The twenty-five lots of Dior haute couture in this auction (Lots 46-70) represent the work of nearly every creative director at the House of Dior.This lot includes a haute couture jacket and skirt with a toile of the haute couture jacket.  The jacket and skirt are made of a hand-painted silk featuring a circular design with flora and fauna. The jacket is cut with a fold-over front, long sleeves and a darker band of silk that crosses at the center back waistline. There is no skirt with the jacket toile.
