A pair of famille-rose square 'chrysanthemum' flower potsHongxian four-character iron-red mark, Republic periodeach fitted with a rosewood stand,26.0cm high each (4).Provenance: Provenance:Estate of Mrs. W. S. Stocks, Sydney, until 2011Private collection, Melbourne, acquired from the above民國 粉彩菊紋四方花盆一對 「洪憲年製」礬紅楷書印章款傳承:悉尼 Mrs. W. S. Stocks 舊藏,至2011年墨爾本私人收藏,購於上述Pieces with this particular type of Hongxian mark can be dated more precisely to 1916 to 1924, and by the hand of Wang Xiaotang (1885-1924), one of the two most famous celebrated painters of Jingdezhen in the early years of the Republic period. In 'Hongxian Porcelain and the Role of Wang Xiaotang', Simon Kwan suggests that Wang may have been employed by the Imperialmission when General Yuan Shikai adopted the reign title Hongxian in an attempt to restore the monarchy to China. See ibid.,Orientations, Hong Kong, October, 1991, pp.65-70. He also lists two vases bearing both the Hongxian mark and Wang Xiaotang's marks. Note the striking similarity between the illustrated Hongxian marks with those on the current lot. See also a vase with the same decorative motif and seal mark,Late Chinese Imperial Porcelain, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, 1980, p.43, no.67.銘有類似款識的民國瓷器或可以更精確地斷代為1916年至1924年閒,傳為汪曉棠(1885-1924)為袁世凱製。關善明在'Hongxian Porcelain and the Role of Wang Xiaotang' 細數其可能,見Orientations,香港,1991年10月刊,頁65至70。
