Description A large wasp sits inside the hollow of a rotting pear and a second wasp sits beside on the pimply skin rendered in ukibori, while a moveable maggot of mammoth ivory looks out from a tiny hole. Eyes of the wasps of black glass. Signed with an initial in a rounded reserve. Original wooden box with initial of the carver. Alexander Derkachenko was born in 1964. He carved his first netsuke in 1995 in Kyiv having given up his work as a lead engineer in the Kyiv Aircraft Factory. He worked predominantly in pear wood, producing a variety of Japanese subjects, but with his own interpretations. Cf. W.
