A FAMILLE VERTE INK POT WITH ORMOLU MOUNTS, QING DYNASTY 清代硬彩硯盒，法國瓷器鎏金China, 1644-1912. A famille verte porcelain lid, which originally belonged to a ginger jar, repurposed most likely after the main vessel was broken. The exterior finely painted with two boys at play and floral sprays, raised on a gilt-bronze pedestal supported on four short feet, the interior with an ink pot, fitted with an ink container made from glass. The cover with bud-shaped finial, all held together by a long screw with a flower-shaped screw nut. The mounts of European origin, crafted in the historicist style, and dating from circa 1870 to 1910.Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. The greater part of the Holzapfel Oriental Ceramics collection was formed in England and Ireland in the late 1950s and 1960s. After the death of Mr. Holzapfel, most of his pieces went to his children, ten in all. Two of Mr. Holzapfel's eldest sons then started their own collections in the early 1970s, both by adding significantly to their shares of the inheritance. Collecting was eventually continued by one of Mr. Holzapfel’s grandsons, who lives in Switzerland and is a member of the Oriental Ceramic Society. This lot was acquired by second generation members of the Holzapfel family circa between 1970 and 2005 and has remained in the family ever since.
