A Peasant in a Window, Smoking a PipeSigned lower centreOil on panel, 36.1 x 28.1 cmNote:Born in Holland around 1775, Simon Besanger entered the Hague Drawing Academy (which later transformed into The Royal Academy of Art), where he received a silver medal for his work. His works are mostly genre subjects, notable for their excellent draughtsmanship and fine use of colour, as can be seen from this present lot. In 1828, Nolthenius de Man made an etching after this man smoking the pipe in a window, of which the print is in the collection of the Rijkmuseum Twente (acc.no. RP-P-OB-22.835).* Condition report available upon request
