Roosenboom preferred painting flowers in their most natural state, casually put down in a bunch on a fresh floor or stone plinth, or, as can be seen from this work on offer, beautifully arranged in a vase. Often a specific type of flower, usually a rose (what's in a name), served as the focal point of her paintings and watercolours, always depicted in warm tones and her distinctive use of colour. A contemporary of hers wrote: "Vermeer had his own blue... Rembrandt his golden colour spectrum, Margaretha Roosenboom her subtle distinctions, shining like pink pearls."* Condition report available upon request
