A JAPANESE NIRVANA PAINTINGD, TOKUGAWA SHOGUNATE FAMILY, A WORK OF Hanabusa ItchÅ. H 220cm, W 104cm (Used to be collected in the family of General J.G.Burham of The Royal Canadian Regiment in Canada who participated in the first World War. Sakya (Buddha) Nirvana was originally a Chinese paradigm, depicting the scene of the Buddha’s Nirvana under the bodhi tree and the monks gathered to mourn. It was introduced into Japan in the Heian era and formed a very important tradition. His paper / silk paintings almost do not exist in China. This lot not only vividly depicts the Buddha lying on his side under the whirling Luo Shuang tree. Many Buddhist disciples, Taoist gods, ghosts and mortal men and women have come to mourn the scene. The painting also recorded in detail the name of each character in the picture. This painting was originally collected in the Zojoji Temple. San’en-zan ZÅjÅ-ji is a JÅdo-shÅ« Buddhist temple in Tokyo, Japan. It is the main temple of the JÅdo-shÅ« (''Pure Land'') Chinzei sect of Buddhism in the KantÅ region. References with similar style collections: Ying Yi Die “Nirvana”, paper, 283cm x 169cm in 1713, has been collected at the Boston Museum since 1911, and is a key collection of Japanese art in the museum. The restoration project lasted for 5 years was completed in 2017, and in the same year, the exhibition was returned to Japan for the first time in more than a hundred years. After the tour in 2018, it returned to the Boston Art Museum.
