A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE 'STANDING LADY' CANDLE HOLDERS Yongzheng/Qianlong period, circa 1735-40 Crisply modeled as two standing ladies wearing-brightly enameled blue and pink long flowing robes, each looking directly forwards, one holding a vase that serves as a candleholder at her left side, the other in mirror image, each standing on a pierced square base. 15in (38cm) high (2). Footnotes: 雍正/乾隆時期 約1735-1740年 粉彩紅黃地柳葉如意雲頭式雲肩仕女燭臺一對 Pairs of ladies in the form of candlesticks are well documented but this early pair is particularly fine with expressive and well modeled faces, as well as bright decoration to the robes. References: Cohen & Motley, 2008, no. 4.7, pp. 92-93, for a pair of figures of boys, of similar size and raised on similarly pierced and decorated bases and bearing candleholders of the same shape.
