A FAMILLE ROSE WALL SCONCE OF A LADY STANDING ON A DRAGON Qianlong period, circa 1760 The single figure standing on a dragon that glides over waves that form part of the base, she holds a beaker vase, gu, to her left side and is wearing elegant robes with flower sprays and gilt roundels, her hair is finely incised and worn in a double topknot, the back flat and pierced with three holes for suspension. 14 1/4in (36cm) high Footnotes: 乾隆時期 約1760年 粉彩仕女壁燭臺 Published Cohen & Cohen, The Elephant in the Room, Antwerp, 2019, pp. 64-67, no. 24 (one of two) 出版: 倫敦Cohen & Cohen古董行,《The Elephant in the Room》,安特衛普,2019年,頁64-67,圖版編號24(二之一) For a pair of identically modelled figures with near identically painted robes but with a use of different enamels to the dragon bases and other minor highlights, see Cohen & Cohen, Hit & Myth, Antwerp, 2014-B, pp. 60-61, no. 34. These figures are a rare adaption of the usual three-dimensional standing figures by the flattening of the backs for attachment to the wall. The use of a writhing dragon amidst waves and rockwork that form the bases of these figures is a type rarely seen on 'Export' ceramics and suggests that these may have been for local Chinese consumption.
