A CINNABAR LACQUER ‘IMMORTALS’ BOWL, LATE MING DYNASTYChina, 16th-17th century. The bowl with deep rounded sides, carved to the exterior with Shoulao riding a crane, an immortal on a chariot pulled by two phoenixes above a scrolling cloud, and Lu Dongbin standing on a dragon while holding a peach, with a spotted deer, and pavilion amid rocks and trees, all above a diaper patterned ground. The foot framed with a T-scroll key-fret band, the base lacquered in black, and the interior with a metal lining, typical for cinnabar lacquer wares from the indicated period.Provenance: Belgian trade.
