A DUAN STONE ‘LOTUS POND’ BRUSH WASHER, QING DYNASTYChina, 19th century. The stone is naturalistically carved as a lotus pond with veined and furled leaves borne on stippled stems as well as pods and flowers, interspersed with roughly textured rockwork creating a striking contrast to the smoothly polished leaves and flowers, further carved in relief with small aquatic animals including three frogs, a cicada, and a fish.Provenance: French trade.Condition: Fine condition with expected old wear and traces of use, minuscule chips to exposed areas, minor old repair to one frog and the fish.
