A SANDSTONE HEAD OF AVALOKITESHVARA, ANGKOR PERIOD, BAPHUON STYLEKhmer Empire, 11th century. Well-carved with a cleft chin and almond-shaped eyes beneath a gently arched brow, the curling beard and mustache indicated with incised lines and the hair in fine braids pulled up into a rounded topknot and secured with a diadem decorated with lotus petals and centered by a small figure of Amithaba, the top of the hair with a blossom shaped cover.Provenance: Yves de Cagny, Paris, 1999. RD collection, Paris, France, acquired from the above. A copy of the original invoice from Yves de Cagny, Paris, dated 7 May 1999, apanies this lot.Condition: Good condition,mensurate with age.
