著录:出版 Himalayan Art Resources,图库编号88593 拍品描述:来源 私人珍藏,英国(传) The present painting is one of a larger group of thirteen paintings depicting the previous lives of the Seventh Dalai Lama, Kalzang Gyatso (1708-1757). The painting is based on a standardized composition established through the use of woodblock prints at the monastery of Narthang in the eighteenth century. Although other paintings following this composition are known, the present work is an exceptional example, demonstrated by the tight line of the artist, the bright palette, and the lavish use of gilt decoration throughout, particularly in the robes of the central figure. Konchog Bang was, according to the Kadam Legbam of Dromton, an Indian prince who rejected the proposed wife chosen for him by his father. Seeking a more spiritually meritorious partner, Konchog Bang was instructed by a Buddhist saint to travel to the land of Uddiyana and marry the dakini Guhya Jnana. Upon arrival in the mythical land of Uddiyana, he encounters the guru, Vimala, who informs him that he will be reincarnated as the historical king, Songtsen Gampo (CE 569-649) and Guhya Jnana will incarnate as his Chinese wife. Both Guru Vimala and Sangwa Yeshe are included in the present painting, and identified by inscriptions in Tibetan in the clouds below their depictions. The translation in Tibetan Ume script on the back of the painting further references the story, and can be translated as: By the compassionate moon rays of Vimala Guru and Guhya Jnana Nurturing the lily garden, Ripening the beings of the land of Uddiyana; To the One Lord Konchog Bang I pray!
