Description John Callcott Horsley RA (English, 1817-1903). Oil on canvas painting titled "The New Dress" (1864) depicting an interior scene with a young girl showing off her brand new dress to an older, seated woman. A dog peaks out from under the table and a cat sleeps peacefully on a cushion nearby. In the background through an open doorway, a mule can be seen being led away by a young man. Signed and dated along the lower right. Along the verso there are several labels including one from the Alexandra Palace of Art & Industry. There are two labels from Kurt E. Schon Ltd. Fine Art.
