FUKUMOTO FUKU (1973-) Moonlight Stacking Vase Heisei era (1989-2019), 2014Important works of art from an American private collectionFUKUMOTO FUKU (1973-)Moonlight Stacking Vase Heisei era (1989-2019), 2014Formed from four separately thrown porcelain components, only the outermost having a base, the outermost three formed as truncated cones: the first with an olive-green glaze to the interior and top of the exterior; the next with a blue glaze; the third with a pale green glaze to the exterior and part of the interior; the innermost a wide-mouthed globular jar, partly green-glazed inside and out with a red border; the four components joined by solidified glaze, incised mark Fuku on the unglazed side of the outermost componentWood tomobako storage box inscribed Getsuei (Tsukikage) (Moonlight), signed Fukumoto Fuku, and sealed Fuku 14 1/4 x 10 7/8 x 11 3/8in (36.3 x 27.5 x 29cm)Fukumoto Fuku (daughter of Fukumoto Shihoko, see following lot) forms her works through a unique process, combining several vessels, some without bases, thinly potted and usually with irregular rims. After an initial firing, she glazes the component vessels, then assembles them in such a way that they shift slightly in the kiln as they float on liquified glaze during a second firing.
