The poem is titled '過香積寺 Guo Xiangji Si' (Passing by the Temple of Accumulated Fragrance). It reads:不知香積寺 Buzhi Xiangji Si,數里入雲峰 Shuli Ru Yunfeng.古木無人徑 wu renjing,深山何處鐘 hechu zhong?The poem can be translated as:Do not know (the whereabouts of)the Xiangji Temple,Miles high up into the clouds;Ancient trees and deserted path,Where is the bell in the thickly,forested mountains?Refer to a nearly identical porcelain snuff bottle in the same format and painted with the same subject, from the Linda Riddell Hoffman Collection, sold at our New York rooms, 22 March 2011, lot 38.
