|笔筒以名贵黄花梨制作，筒形，口微外撇，整器造型简洁，线条匀细流畅。外壁饰雀鸟、蝴蝶，玉兰，梅花、奇石等，树枝遒劲、枝叶卷曲；雀立枝头，俯首回望，意趣怏然；花朵盛开，镶嵌技法制成，嵌工精致。百宝嵌之工，据《西京杂记》说：“天子笔管以错宝为研。”其做法，有隐起如浮雕的，也有表面平齐，不见起伏的。而此笔筒镶嵌螺钿作春季花卉盛开，雀鸟报喜，栩栩如生，色纯质润，光泽饱满，方寸之间，图文端庄清雅，展玩在目，妙趣横生，可谓精工巧制。
