RELIQUIA - GUARDIAN FIGURE OF THE KOTA, Gabon / Africa, 1st half of the 20th century; ancestor cult and grave guardian figure, for the protection of the bones of deceased family members. "Mbulo-nuglu" reliquary figure in characteristic, strongly stylized formal language: oval moulded face with cabochon-like button eyes, pointed nose and peg coiffure; geometrically abstracted body. Wood with patina, the figure covered with brass and copper sheet and partially with hammered and punched geometric decoration. H. 42,5 cm. Signs of use and age as a beautiful patina (body bumped, board broken in the right area of the figure). "Mbulo-nuglu" Reliquiarfigur in charakteristischer, stark stilisierter Formensprache: oval gemuldetes Gesicht mit cabochonähnlichen Knopfaugen, spitzer Nase und Pflockfrisur; geometrisierend abstrahierter Körper. Holz mit Patina, die Figur mit Messing- und Kupferblech beschlagen und partiell mit getriebenem und punziertem geometrischem Dekor. H. 42,5 cm. Gebrauchs- und Altersspuren als schöne Patina (Körper bestoßen, Brett im rechten Bereich der Figur gebrochen). Aus dem Nachlass einer westfälischen Sammlung.
