Four framed samplers, 18th and 19th centuries, to include a George III alphabet and numeral sampler by Mary Howes, with Psalm 23, contained within a border of floral and strawberry motifs, signed and dated 1782, held in a gilded and ebonised frame, 34.2 x 30.5cm; an alphabet sampler by Mary Ellen Janes at age 14, depicting an arrangement of crowns, animals, trophies and trees, signed and dated 1884, 41.4 x 39.5cm; a burr wood framed sampler by Jane Hughes, depicting a landscape with figures, animals and a house, signed and dated august 1880, 42.3 x 42.5cm; and an indistinctly signed and dated alphabet sampler inscribed with moral sayings, with floral cartouche embellished with parrots and a rabbit, contained within a floral and vine border, framed and glazed, 36.3 x 29.2cm (4) Condition Report: Each is generally in good decorative order. The fourth described has a few small holes to the embroidery and the frame is at fault - the sampler would need re-framing. General light scratches and knocks to the wood of the other frames.
