Ca. 900-1100 AD. A gorgeous solid silver neck ornament made by a fine Viking silversmith. It features a round section shank of silver which tapers to a conical-shaped finial at each end. The Viking neck torc was not just a piece of jewelry, but an important part of the Norse culture. They were used to show an individual's social standing, and could also be seen as a status symbol. They were often worn on special occasions, such as weddings or important ceremonies.
