A rare Chinese tianqi lacquer 'landscape' shaped cabinetMid-Qing dynasty, first half of 19th centuryThe rectangular cabinet with canted shoulders containing two drawers above a rectangular section with paired doors and a waisted base with a further drawer, on an integral stand with scrolling edges, all surmounted by a smaller rectangular cabinet with two doors, carved and painted to the doors and drawers with scenes from an idyllic mountainous river landscape dotted with pine trees and dwellings, the sides and top with bats, scrolling lotus, and baskets of flowers, 51.5cm high.清十九世紀上半葉 填漆山水圖紋櫃Cf. A cabinet of almost identical shape, but made of carved cinnabar lacquer and on a slightly different stand, was sold by Bonhams, New Bond Street, 3 November 2022, lot 138. The shape is rare, however, another cabinet with one horizontal top compartment, mid Qing dynasty, in the Qing Court Collection is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Lacquer Wares of the Qing Dynasty, Hong Kong, 2006, p.68, no.45.
