AN ARCHAISTIC FIRE-GILT COPPER REPOUSSÉ FIGURE OF A RECUMBENT WATER BUFFALOChina, style of the Tang dynasty - dating to the late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or slightly later. The recumbent water buffalo with its legs tucked underneath the body, the head raised with elegantly curved horns, and the tail swept to one side. The figure with neatly incised archaistic patterns surmounted on a rectangular base.Condition: Good condition with some surface wear, rubbing to the gilt, minor material loss, and areas of malachite and azurite encrustations. Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent.
