AN ARCHAISTIC FIRE-GILT COPPER REPOUSSÉ FIGURE OF A PHOENIX AND SERPENTChina, style of the Tang dynasty - dating to the late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or slightly later. The bird capturing a serpent with its sharp claws and holding it firmly in its grasp, the serpent with its body coiled and head raised in defense, both creatures with their mouths wide open. The body of the bird adorned with neatly incised archaistic patterns and its tail and wings displaying zoomorphic elements.Condition: Good condition with traces of wear and age, rubbing to the gilt, and areas of malachite encrustations. Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent.
