A BRONZE RECTANGULAR INCENSE BURNERZhonghong shi jiacang mark, 16th/17th centuryThe rectangular vessel rising from four bracket feet rising to subtly curving sides, flanked by a pair of rounded bracket-shaped handles, patinated to a golden brown tone, the underside cast with a five-character mark in seal script within a rectangle.15.6cm (6 1/8in) longProvenance: 十六/十七世紀 銅雙耳馬槽爐陽文「仲虹氏家藏」篆書款The mark readsZhonghong shi jiacang, which may be translated as 'the family heirloon of the Zhonghong family'.This form of incense burner is also known asma cao lu, meaning 'the trough-form incense burner', which started to gain popularity during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
